The Department of English Studies (DENS) has recently added a new feather in their cap by successfully organizing their annual play production aptly titled Rasa Sayang: A Malaysian Tapestry. The two sold-out shows, held on August 2nd 2025 both at 3pm and 8pm respectively, were well-received by audiences with many citing the production as ‘One of the best I’ve seen in years’. The success of the show was made possible by the relentless dedication and hard put in primarily by English-majored students from DENS. The annual play is part of DENS annual project lineup, where students are given the opportunity to to hone their skills in all aspects of theatre production—from directing and acting to set-building and marketing. It was one successful night made possible by a group of students who believed in the magic of theatre. More than ever, it was a passion project that sparked joy and delight in all those who got to be a part of it. 

The Faculty of Social Science and Humanities, Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology (TAR UMT) recently collaborated with Adamas University, Kolkata by organising a sharing and exchange of knowledge in the form of a guest lecture series. The endeavor, named the Global Classroom Series aimed to foster a strong relationship between Adamas University and the Faculty of Social Science and Humanities (FSSH) while also providing an opportunity for students from FSSH and Adamas University’s Faculty of Education and Department of English to sharpen and develop their knowledge.

Coordinated by Assoc Prof Dr. Jeslyn Sharnita Amarasekera and Dr. Prasanta Gayen from Adamas University, the Global Classroom series kicked off on 18 November 2025 with two guest lectures conducted by Dr Keong Chee Seong (Centre for Pre-University Studies) & Dr Vishal Kumar (School of Education, Adamas University) under the theme, AI in Education. 

Held on a weekly basis, the second guest lecture series took place on 25 November 2025 under the theme The Modern Classroom, in which Ms Nirosha Raman from the Deaprtment of English Studies and Dr. Md Nawaz Sarif from the School of Education, Adamas University provided a vibrant discussion on the ever-changing landscape of contemporary classrooms. 

The third session on 2 December 2025 served as a beneficial engagement as both lectures dwelled on Education and the Future Generations. Ms. Roshni Butt of the Department of Forensic Science, Adamas University provided insights into a child criminal using a real-life case study, while Ms. Eva Liau from the Department of Education (FSSH) emphasises on the role of nature in the nurturing of young children. 

The Global Classroom series concluded on 9 December 2025 with an emphasis on Language, Communication and Technology. Dr Mohamad Ali bin Yusuf from the Department of English Studies and Dr Madhurima Chakraborty from the School of Education, Adamas University delighted the audience by engaging with the role of digital media which has undoubtedly paved the way for a new tapestry of words that resonate with the contemporary society. 

Overall, these four sessions of guest lectures enabled more than 200 students from both institutions to acquire relevant knowledge that would be applicable in their respective classrooms. It is hoped that such collaborative activities will be able to not only enhance the ongoing partnership between both institutions but also serve as a clear indication of TAR UMT’s role in providing beyond education.
